Thursday, February 11th, 2010Green Drinks Charlotte – Movie Night
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Message from The Green Drinks Team. Every month people who work in the environmental field, the eco curious, and the environmentally minded meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks.
“We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you’ll be made welcome. Just say, “are you green?” and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It’s a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts.
Together with CPCC and HAWK (Habitat and Wildlife Keepers) we are excited to announce that for our February get together we will be hosting a screening of the movie “Tapped”. “Tapped” examines the big business of bottled water and takes a behind-the-scenes look at this unregulated industry that aims to privatize and sell back the one resource that ought never to become a commodity – water.
Directed by Stephanie Soechtig and produced by the same team who made “Who Killed the Electric Car,” this inspiring documentary trails the bottled water industry, painting a powerful portrait of the lives affected by this industry and the businesses and individuals caught at the intersection of big business and the public’s right to water.
Green Drinks will be hosting happy hour in the bar area at Carpe Diem restaurant prior to the movie – from 5:30pm to 6:30pm which is located at:
1535 Elizabeth Avenue
Charlotte, NC 28204
(704) 377-7976
The movie will be in Tate Hall, Overcash Center, on the CPCC Central Campus at 7pm:
1206 Elizabeth Ave.
Charlotte, NC 28204
Tickets for the movie are $7. To order tickets, please call the CPCC Box Office at 704.330.6534 or visit tix.cpcc.edu. Free parking is available in the faculty/staff parking deck, accessible from East Fourth Street.
Oh yeah, we’ll have free prizes to give away too. See you there!”
Corky The Mouse
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010The Corky Mouse Generates Kinetic Energy With Every Click – Portable wireless mice have a problem: most of them rely upon disposable batteries, which often wind up in landfills as e-waste. Adele Peters’ Corky mouse aims to change all that — it’s a kinetic energy-harvesting mouse that is powered with a flick of the wrist. One of 18 finalists in this year’s Greener Gadgets Design Competition, it’s also made from 100% recycled plastic components and recycled and biodegradable cork. (more…)
